Terms & Conditions & Other Useful Information
The following is the boring but necessary ‘small print’ relating to your reservation with the Lansdowne Strand. If you have any particular queries please do contact us for further assistance & we will be most happy to help!
Check in/check out
Rooms are available to check in from 14.00 but may be available earlier by prior request only. We will do our upmost to meet your request for early check in but cannot guarantee this. Check out is at 10.30; if you wish to check out later please ask us. We cannot guarantee this, but will always seek to accommodate your request. Check in finishes at 22.00. Where possible we will extend this if necessary- this is offered at the discretion of the manager on duty only. We do not offer 24 hour reception facilities. The latest check in will be extended to is 23.00 by express agreement of the manager on duty. If a late check in is required this must be communicated directly to the hotel who will accommodate this request where possible.
Cancellations & reservation alterations
Cancellation of your room reservation may be made up until 48 hours of your arrival date without charge. Cancellations received with less than 48 hours’ notice are fully chargeable. We require a credit/debit card to reserve your room & in the event of a late cancellation this will be charged. If the card given cannot be charged then you acknowledge that the outstanding amount becomes a debt which we reserve the right to collect through other appropriate means. Should you wish to change something about your booking please email or call us & we will try our best to make these changes. Please note, cancellations or modifications to reservations made through external companies online (such as booking.com) can only be made directly with them.
Non-arrivals
If you have a reservation but do not arrive without having cancelled your booking the total of your stay will be charged. This charge will be made to the card details held to secure your reservation against.
Food & drink bills
Should you wish to charge food & or drink bills against your room we will need card details. This applies to rooms booked online; we can only collect your room bill total against card details supplied online & no additional charges may be made against these details. Should payment not be forthcoming before or at your check out we reserve the right to process payment against the card details supplied to us directly from yourself.
Allergies & intolerances
If you suffer from any food allergies or intolerances please make your server aware and notify us at the time of booking so we can do our best to meet your needs. Our kitchen will do its best to accommodate your requirements however cross-contamination can never be entirely ruled out. If you have a feather allergy please inform the Lansdowne Strand directly upon booking your room (or at least a day before your stay) as our King Superior rooms have sumptuous feather bedding.
Credit card charges
You authorise us to charge your credit/debit card for any charges incurred. This includes any damage or removal of property from the Lansdowne Strand or any fines applied for smoking within the hotel.
Parking
Whilst we have limited parking in our courtyard we cannot guarantee or reserve parking. Additional parking can be found locally & we will be happy to assist. Please be careful about pulling into or out of the car park, as it is a little tight- our courtyard was designed for horse & coach! We have never had an instance of theft in our car park but please be aware that you are solely responsible for your car & its contents. Please also park with respect to other guests; you must not block in other cars & we have a strict policy on this. Please do not park in front of the gates or garden planters. If you park inappropriately you will be instructed to move your vehicle.
Smoking
Smoking & vaping is not permitted anywhere inside any building. Please remember that as well as the smell & damage caused by smoking in our rooms, it is both illegal & a safety risk to our other residents. Ashtrays are provided in our courtyard; for the comfort of our all guests please do use them. There is a charge of £100 per incident for any guests found to be smoking in their rooms, which may be taken from the credit/debit card details given during booking.
Disabled access
We will always do our best to assist with access and do have disabled access & toilet on the ground floor however all our hotel rooms are situated on either the first or second floor. Unfortunately, the age and listing of our historic coaching inn renders additions of such things as lifts impossible.
Keys
Should you mistakenly take your key home, please let us know & send it back to us as soon as possible. Should a key be taken home & not returned within a week we shall replace this key (& keyring) & there will be a charge to yourself. Please note our keys are not normal domestic ones & the cost of replacement is therefore significantly higher!
Taxis As a small town, Calne has only limited supply of taxis- we strongly recommend you make any arrangements for travel by taxi ahead of the date to avoid any last minute panic! We are most happy to provide recommendations of taxi companies to contact.
Unruly guests
We are a welcoming & friendly coaching inn for both residents & non-residents. We do ask that you respect your fellow guests (particularly noise wise) & our hard-working staff. We have never had cause to do this yet, but in extreme circumstances management does have the sole right to remove unruly guests with no refund.
Noise
Please be aware that this is an old and listed building, so there is some inevitable noise that travels up to the bedrooms from within the building itself or externally. We do our upmost to avoid and limit this & the comfort of our guests is paramount but any noise may travel through our old walls a little more than in ubiquitous purpose-built soundproofed modern hotels. The hotel is centrally based with the town & sits on the A4; some noise is to be expected from this.
Guest Requests
Please do not rely on simply sending in an email or leaving a message for any requests. We try very hard to ensure all & any requests are actioned and try to rise to each request but this may not always be necessary. Please note that if your request is not acknowledged by us it may not be actioned, this is especially true of requests made via online booking systems- unfortunately these requests are polled automatically to our reservations system & so are unlikely to be picked up before the day of your check in. Do ask- we will do our best to accommodate!
The Lansdowne has been welcoming hungry & thirsty travellers & locals for nearly 500 years. A tradition continued today by owners Arkell's Brewery, master brewers since 1843.
