Bowood House and Gardens
Set within Capability Brown parkland, and home to the Lansdowne family for more than 250 years Bowood now has plenty to offer from golf, a spa, children’s adventure playground to many events throughout the year including guided tours of their gardens. During the spring months, they also open their Woodland Walks to explore simply stunning trails through a kaleidoscope of rhododendrons, magnolias, azaleas, carpets of bluebells and every week a ‘Walk of the Week’ to follow and enjoy, celebrating the very best blooms at that time.
Caen Locks
An easy and enjoyable walk (with a lovely café enroute!) which will give you the opportunity to see John Rennie’s incredible fleet of 29 locks on this portion of the Kennet and Avon canal. To navigate the locks by boat takes around 5-6 hours- but fortunately much less time by foot! A wander along the canal will also lead you into the thriving market town of Devizes.
Longleat House and Safari Park
This beautiful stately home dates back to the Elizabethan era and is now open to the public. Guests can enjoy the grounds, maze, house and an expansive safari park with Longleat's famous lions! Throughout the year an exciting schedule of events are available to attend, including their most impressive annual Festival of Light.
Avebury Stone Circle
Not only a World Heritage site full of curiosity Avebury is also a pretty, quaint English village. A pub, café and local shop all provide refreshments and some unique gifts. Their second-hand bookshop often surprises and delights with some literary gems at bargain prices- plus your purchase helps fund the National Trust.
Silbury Hill
Easily found given its unmissable location on the A4, this is the largest man-made mound in Europe. For those who would like to see this and Avebury Stone Circle on their visit and are happy to walk a short distance park here and follow the footpath into Avebury.
West Kennet Longbarrow
Over 5,500 years old, this longbarrow is a mysterious and atmospheric place to visit made up as it is of a number of burial chambers. Another fantastically easy to visit site which can be combined with ease with a visit to Silbury Hill and Avebury given its location adjacent to Silbury Hill.

Stonehenge
For those willing to travel a little further to enjoy something internationally renowned, this World Heritage site is around 25 miles from the Lansdowne Strand and will make you marvel at both why and how the Sarsen stones were moved here from the Marlborough Downs and erected to create perhaps the world’s most famous prehistoric monument.
Crop Circles
For those pulled by Wiltshire’s renowned title as the epicentre of crop circles (the most crop circles in England), a trip to the Crop Circle Visitor Centre & Exhibition is a must. Whilst here, it’s a brilliant opportunity to either enjoy a canal side wander or take in the quintessential Wiltshire landscape by viewing the dramatic Alton Barnes White Horse, set against a dramatic undulating hillside.

Cherhill White Horse
Commands the countryside as you enter Calne and is either a good walk from the hotel or a very short drive to enjoy from the road or for a walk, to either the base of the hillside or a jaunt up the hill to take in the surrounding countryside and visit the monument atop the hill.

Atwell Wilson Motor Museum
This is a very short drive from the Lansdowne Strand and has over 100 exhibits, mostly from the 1920s onwards of vehicles of both the four- and two-wheel variety! They can also provide a number of beautiful vintage vehicles for your wedding day.

The Arc at Chippenham
Offering rope climbing, bouldering and skating, this is a brilliant chance to try something new. A great option if you want to do something active when the weather is less than ideal!

Lacock, Castle Coombe & Harry Potter
For film buffs, Harry Potter fans and those who just love the beauty of chocolate box villages will all love visiting Lacock and Castle Combe. You’re sure to have a sense of de ja vu visiting either as the quaint cottages and timeless roads are a familiar sight having appeared in numerous films and programmes, including Harry Potter, Pride and Prejudice, Downtown Abbey and War Horse amongst many others.
Swindon Designer Shopping & Marlborough
For those looking for retail therapy, Marlborough offers lots of shops along reputedly the widest high street in the country and tucked away on hidden corners, or also visit the huge Swindon Designer Outlet, next door to the Steam Museum, which chronicles Swindon rich railway history.

Victorian Brewery Tours
The Lansdowne Strand is owned by Arkell's Brewery, founded in 1843, who still run one of the last remaining Victorian tower steam breweries in the country - and you can take a tour! It's a fascinating, very popular experience that ends with a tasting.

Bath... and more!
Either a short and easy train trip or drive, the UNESCO city of Bath probably needs little introduction but beyond the Roman Baths and Royal Crescent there is so much more to explore. For a more relaxing way to while away a few hours indulge in a visit to the Thermae Spa. Enjoy a walk, short boat trip or paddle board session on the River Avon or wander along the canal. Various shops, museums and attractions fill the busy streets of this Georgian gem. The train station is perfectly located centrally within the city and so travelling here from us by rail is incredibly convenient. In December, the renowned Christmas markets fills the streets with huts hosting a spectrum of curiosities and delights perfect for presents or a gift to yourself. Don’t forget to buy a cone of roasted chestnuts and a mulled wine or cider!
Cotswold Water Parks
An area of 40-square miles with more than 150 lakes offering lots of exciting water sports from Easter through to October half term (weather dependent). A short hop from here gets you into Cirencester, a Roman town with so much to explore, too.The Lansdowne has been welcoming hungry & thirsty travellers & locals for nearly 500 years. A tradition continued today by owners Arkell's Brewery, master brewers since 1843.
